File guides and out guides look similar and have different functions, but both can help increase filing efficiency. File guides break your system into sections to help speed filing and retrieval. The more files you have, the more you need guides to help you quickly find the section you are looking for. “Out” guides mark the location of folders that have been removed from the drawer, making it easy to return them to their proper locations. They also include space to indicate who is using the file, and when it will be returned – making sure that the location of the file is always known.
